PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Antoine Tabet is the president of Technorm, a consultant firm specialized in building and fire-safety standards. His academic studies include a Bachelor in Applied Sciences (mechanical engineering) at the University of Cairo as well as a diplôme en études complémentaires supérieures en mécanique at the University of Montreal (1974).

Mr. Tabet began his career at Grinnell, designing special risk fire-safety systems. Subsequently, he worked as a technical consultant for the Ministère du travail du Québec and as a team leader responsible for the application of regulations relating to building, plumbing and pressure vessels.

He also was the president of the committe on building in charge of the interpretation of the regulations and of the study of the compensatory measures in existing buildings. He was part of a work group in the United States on the application of American standards to existing buildings.

He has been a speaker at several conferences and training sessions on the subject of the Building Code for architects and building inspectors. He is currently teaching the National Building Code and construction regulations at the École Polytechnique and at the School of Architecture of the Université de Montréal.

His vast experience spanning more than 25 years enabled him to get involved in various large-scale projects and in diversified fields (public health and care buildings, schools as well as residential, industrial or commercial projects), covering the aspects linked to safety regulations, authority approval as well as the conformity and compliance analysis of zoning and construction standards.

He is an active member of the Standing Committee on Fire Protection, a committee under the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes. Mr Tabet is a member of the Quebec Order of Engineers and of the National Fire Protection Association. He represents the Quebec Order of Engineers on the provincial Building Code committee.
