WHAT
ARE THE BENEFITS OF A CMHC-INSURED REFINANCE LOAN? |
|
Last
June, CMHC launched a brand new mortgage refinance product for
rental properties and retirement homes. This insurance product
offers many advantages to borrowers, including the opportunity
to take out their equity, the possibility of getting a partial
credit for the previously paid CMHC insurance premium, and increased
flexibility to refinance a loan before the end of the term in
order to benefit from favourable financing conditions. Using concrete
examples, Jacques Pelletier will present the new CMHC refinance
product and the benefits that an informed investor could not ignore. |

THE
MONTREAL HOUSING CRISIS:
WHAT
ARE THE SOLUTIONS?
|
|
Academics
and social activists have blamed the
Montreal housing crisis on new demographic trends, public housing
spending cuts and growing poverty. The only explanation that stands
up to scrutiny, however, is that a number of government policies
have distorted the proper workings of the province’s housing
market. What then would be the likely effects of the abolition
of policies such as rent control? This and other topics will be
examined in light of Canadian, American and European experiences. |
